Rohan Site
Dirty campaign tricks have been around as long as there have been elections. Some are wondering if a local candidate has taken the old practice to new high or lows as the case may be. The prank makes it appear as if one of the superintendent candidates is practicing hi-tech hijacking.Bay County Superintendent Candidate Thelma Rohan Googled herself the other day.She was shocked by what turned-up on her computer screen."I actually typed my name in and up popped another website, it was startling. If you type thelmarohan.com into your computer, you might expect to see Rohan's campaign site. However, what appears is the website of one of her Republican opponents, Jim Barr.Rohan believes someone bought the domain name, and then redirected the web page to "VoteJimBarr.com"."I dont know if it ever happened before and I'm surprised that I'm the one it has happened to because I didn't think I was important enough," Rohan said. However, since the site was purchased legally, there's nothing Rohan can do. And as many point their finger to Jim Barr, he says he was also surprised by the news."I want to emphatically say I don't own the website. I know absolutely nothing to mater; I have no control over someone linking to my web site," Barr said Wednesday."I think one of the biggest surprises when you find out you've been duped by this or used, or whatever you want to call it , is that there's nothing you can do, and I have no idea what the ramifications might be," Rohan.Rohan has since begun building her own website called voterohan.com. The site isn't completed yet, but already it's now the top result when you search her name. Both candidates agree the website redirection was a bad joke on both of them. And, they both vow to run a clean campaign.
